How many slides do you need for a 10-minute presentation?
Updated 2026-11-05
For a 10-minute presentation, plan 5 to 10 slides. This comes from a common rule of thumb of one to two minutes per slide; it is an experience-based guideline, not a standard, and it depends on how dense your slides are and how you speak.
The table below applies the same rule to talks from 5 to 60 minutes. If you use Gamma AI Slide, you can set the exact number: it accepts 1 to 30 slides, and the cover counts.
How to pick your number, in four steps
Subtract time for questions
If the slot is 10 minutes with 2 for questions, you have 8 minutes to talk. Use that figure in the table.
Look up your talk length
Divide the minutes by 2 for the low end and by 1 for the high end. Pick the lower number when your slides carry a lot of text or charts, the higher number when they are mostly one image or one sentence.
Count the slides that need no speaking time
A title slide, an agenda and a closing slide take seconds. Include them in the count, but they do not use up a full minute each.
Set the number in the tool and check the outline
On the home page, write the number in your request ("10 slides") or pick it in the slide-count option, then check the outline cards: delete the weakest one if you are over, add one if you are under. The count can be changed before slides are generated.
Slides by talk length, and a real 12-slide deck
| Talk length | Slides at 1 to 2 minutes each | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 5 minutes | 3 to 5 | One idea only |
| 10 minutes | 5 to 10 | One main message and two or three reasons |
| 15 minutes | 8 to 15 | | |
| 20 minutes | 10 to 20 | | |
| 30 minutes | 15 to 30 | Add a recap slide at the half way point |
| 60 minutes | 30 to 60 | Gamma AI Slide makes at most 30 slides per deck, so use 30 and talk longer per slide, or make two decks |
Basis: the one-to-two-minutes-per-slide rule of thumb. It is our summary of common presentation advice, not a measured result or an official standard, and we did not time any talk for this page. Slide count includes title and closing slides.
The picture shows all 12 slides of our recorded launch plan for a management team (made-up brand, October 19, 2026). By the rule above it would fill a talk of about 12 to 24 minutes. That is our estimate; we did not present it.
Prompt (English), the last words
Launch marketing plan
"...It's for the management team, 12 slides."
(A count written in the request is read and used. It was 12 cards in the outline.)

- Slide 1 is the cover and slide 2 an agenda; the AI added the agenda because the deck is long. They take seconds, so 12 slides is less than 12 full minutes.
- Slides 3 to 6 are the evidence, 7 to 10 the plan, 11 and 12 the targets and the decision: one section per few minutes.
- Slides with a table or a chart (2, 9, 11) need more speaking time than the quote slide (6).
What is the range in Gamma AI Slide?
You can ask for 1 to 30 slides; the cover counts as a slide. If you leave the number on "auto", the AI decides: it is told to use as many slides as the content needs, usually 6 to 12 including the cover. With a number in your request, such as "12 slides", that number is used. Asking for more than 30 gets a message that 30 is the maximum.
In the outline you can add or delete cards (up to 30), then generate. Quick mode is 1 credit per slide, so a 10-slide deck is 10 credits; the outline is free.
How much text should each slide have?
Fewer words per slide means less speaking time per slide. Gamma AI Slide has four levels of "Text per slide": Minimal (about 50 words), Concise (about 100, the default), Detailed (about 150) and Extensive (about 210). For a talk, Minimal or Concise leaves the explaining to you.
When is one slide per minute too fast?
When each slide holds a chart or a table the audience has to read. Give those two minutes or more, and let them count for two slides in your plan.
Questions
How many slides for a 10 minute presentation?
Plan 5 to 10 slides, based on the common rule of one to two minutes per slide. It is a rule of thumb, not a standard. Fewer slides with more talking suit a story; more slides with fewer words suit a quick tour.
How many slides for a 5, 15, 20, 30 or 60 minute presentation?
By the same rule: 5 minutes, 3 to 5 slides; 15 minutes, 8 to 15; 20 minutes, 10 to 20; 30 minutes, 15 to 30; 60 minutes, 30 to 60. In Gamma AI Slide a single deck has at most 30 slides.
Does the title slide count?
Yes. In Gamma AI Slide the cover counts in the slide count, and so do agenda and closing slides. They take seconds to present.
Can I change the number of slides after the outline is written?
Yes. Add or delete outline cards before you click "Generate presentation". After the slides exist, ask the AI to add or remove a slide; each AI edit is 1 credit.
How much does it cost?
Writing the outline is free. Quick mode costs 1 credit per slide, deep mode 3, each AI edit 1, and exporting is free. New accounts get 20 free credits; credit packs are one-time purchases (for example $5.99 for 40 credits plus 10 bonus) with no subscription, and credits never expire. See the Pricing page.
